Cooperative Divorce Law

Cooperative divorce law is a relatively new term that applies to and covers all sensible and “friendly” divorces that take place without the direct influence of either mediation or collaborative law.

Throughout the history of divorce, there have always been instances of people that have had the good fortune to keep things friendly and cooperative all on their own. These individuals needed the ability to resolve their differences without guidance from a structured resolution process, as is found in mediation and in collaborative law.

Cooperative divorce law is growing rapidly and is adopting its own policies and standards of practice. It promises to bring new, additional, and structured help to divorcing parties and to their families.

Among the unique benefits of this new, more organized approach is the help it gives to the children of divorce and the practical guidance it provides to the parties during their one-on-one settlement negotiations.
